Unfortunately I’ve only been free for 143 days since I was fifteen.
This might sound wild, but during my incarceration I didn’t let that define me. I earned over seventy certifications, taught finance, self-awareness, and job readiness classes, led a horticulture team growing crops and ornamental house plants for homeless shelters, and even had my writing published. I also participated I four documentaries.
Now, after twenty years inside, I’m being resentenced because of good behavior and will be home soon.
This is a big deal for me. I’m very excited to get out, but honestly I’m also nervous. Yes, I’ve grown a lot in here, but there’s still so much I haven’t experienced. I’ve never had a cellphone, car, or my own place. I don’t have children and only had one long-term relationship. I mention this because I was counting on her to help guide me upon release, but now, I’m learning how to stand on my own.
I do have goals and passions, and I’m ready to build a new life, but I’ll need good people around me to make that happen. That’s why I’m on this website. I’m not opposed to romance, but I’m really looking for strong friendships and mentors who believe in second chances.
If you’re someone who is kind, encouraging, wants to have fun, loves to smile, travel, and is willing to show me how to navigate the world outside of these walls, I’d love to connect.
