I'm a 39 year old prisoner serving a life sentence. I'm seeking a pen pal whose interests are similar to mine, and who is positive, engaging, and open to real friendship.

I was raised in Thousand Oaks, Ca., and have a wonderful network of friends and family who tend to spoil me. I'm very lucky. I also have a best friend who calls me on my bull... and keeps me humble.

Growing up I was a bit of a hooligan; I managed to find trouble wherever it lay hiding. And, unfortunately, my antics didn't stop at the prison gates. I spent roughly 15 year in the Security Housing Unit (SHU); from the mid 90s to 2009. I'm now on a mainline. During my time in the SHU I did a lot of soul searching and educational studies. I have changed tremendously over the last decade.

My interests include but not limited to: history, philosophy, psychology, science, literature, Art, mythology and religion, and cultural criticism. Philosophy is unquestionably my forte, and I enjoy writing essays. (I am currently a student.) I write on everything from Shakespeare, novels, television, movies and music to the meaning of life, death, God and reality.

Books: Plato's Republic, Shakespeare., Shantaram, Animal Farm, Brave New World, Clockwork Orange.
Music: (mostly rock) Ozzy, Rush, Guns and Roses, 2Pac and Oldies.
Movies: The Odyssey, Lonesome Dove, Joe Dirt, The Hangover.
Television: Parenthood, Friday Night Lights, Flashforward, Gray's Anatomy, Modern Family.
Sports: It's all Boston all the time - Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins, Patriots.
Art: Renaissance artists like Raphael, Giorgione, Michelangelo.

I'm looking for a potential friend, someone who understands the importance of human connections, relationships, and wants to "do" things with someone. I am open-minded, thoughtful, engaging, and sincerely interested in making a real connection, a friendship that will be allowed to grow and mature on its own terms.
