About
the Book
Incarcerated
Tears VOl. 1: Book of Poetry envisions to invite readers to
find freedom within its pages.
As a book
of poetry Incarcerated Tears is unique in that it doesn't
seek to be poetic. Its first obligation is to be honest and open, speaking
about life and experiences under the sun in an organic way. While its
first obligation isn't to be poetic, Incarcerated Tears VOl.
1: Book of Poetry is just that, poetic!!! With lines like,
"Your letters fall between the cracks in these bars, where I can't reach
them." From the poem entitled "Preface to a Love Poem",
Incarcerated Tears is poetic, open, and inviting.

About
the Author
So, who
is Anthony C. Robinson Jr.?
I am twenty-eight
year old African American male who is incarcerated, but not imprisoned.
I believe that incarceration is a temporary situation that I am in,
while imprisonment is a mind state of individuals who feel that the
world has done them injustice for holding them accountable for their
actions.
I believe
that writing is the most intimate form of communication. And I seek
to communicate my hopes, dreams, fears, spirit, and humanity with the
world through my poetry. With my book I ask you to look into my humanity
in order to see your own...

Pennies
in Charity
I don't want
to be anything
But
who I am;
Why won't the world let me breathe?
You smother me in your expectations
Dangling from open handcuffs.
Can you blame me if I tire of searching for yours
And make my own key?
Now comes the consequences
Of searing my conscience and taking
My life chances.
If I could live long enough
To feel free in the ghetto
I could turn in these pennies
In my pocket.
I feel like the worlds sincerest philanthropist
Feeding the hungry children
With the conviction of dreams in my heart.
Why won't my charity be written in books
If I have no more pennies dancing in my pocket
To the beat of my heart?

Grandmother
I wish I could live
In the world the way you saw it.
We regret your passing,
But I know you were following your heart,
Duty bound by a spiritual connection.
Because God and Granddad
Wanted you back a thousand times
More than we could ever miss you.
So you committed yourself bravely
To the task of finding your way back.
And here it was we thought you were
Grief stricken and sick.
But you had a calling to stay faithful to.
You found a taste of heaven on earth
That made everything else pale in comparison.
Food wasn't enough to nourish you
So you stopped eating.
When conversing with people,
The hymn that you used to hear in your own voice
Slowly faded away and no amount of |
Company
could comfort you.
You became disinterested in things
We thought brought you joy,
I realize now that it was the communion
Of you and Granddad together that gave
You joy, not the activity alone.
And now God and Granddad
Have called you home.
With a part of you gone
You felt that if you did not have
All of yourself to give us
It would be best if you went
And stopped the grieving in heaven.
I ask that you not look down at me from up there,
You keep your head high Grandmother
And I'll keep your example in my heart.
And when I die they'll say
"His eyes were watching God..."
